Experts from Nepal and Bangladesh to deliberate virtually on 4 December 2021 about ‘Commercial Dispute Resolution through Mediation’

Nepal International ADR Center (NIAC) is co-hosting a webinar event with Bangladesh International Arbitration Centre (BIAC) online via Zoom from 11.15 am to 1.15 pm Nepal Time / 11.30 am to 1.30 pm Bangladesh Standard Time, on Saturday, 4 December 2021 on ‘Commercial Dispute Resolution through Mediation’.

Nepal International ADR Center (NIAC) is committed to accessible and credible dispute resolution service through Arbitration and Mediation based in Kathmandu, Nepal.  NIAC is also a constituent member of Asia Pacific Centre for Arbitration and Mediation (APCAM) which is a common forum of nine ADR institutions working in the Asia Pacific region. NIAC is predominantly focused on providing quality service and undertaking academic works in the field of ADR.

Bangladesh International Arbitration Centre (BIAC) is the first only registered Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) institution in Bangladesh dedicated to institutionalised arbitration and mediation. BIAC is working for dispute resolution service, academic and collaborative works including training and outreach programmes on ADR with different institutions across the world. 

Chairperson of Nepal International ADR Center (NIAC) Dr. Mukti Rijal and CEO of BIAC Mr. Muhammad A. (Rumee) Ali will deliver Welcome Addresses, while Chairman of BIAC Board Mr. Mahbubur Rahman will make Closing Remarks at the webinar. Mr. Matrika Prasad Niraula, Senior Advocate, Nepal and Managing Director of Nepal International ADR Center (NIAC) will moderate the Webinar. Panelist Discussants of high eminence including a Judge of the Nepalese High Court, prominent legal experts, bankers, Accredited Mediators and NGO representatives from Nepal and Bangladesh will speak on the occasion.

On behalf of NIAC, Justice Shreekanta Paudel, Hon’ble Judge of the High Court of Nepal will speak on the Importance of Banking Dispute Resolution through Mediation; Dr. Kumar Sharma Acharya, Senior Advocate and Mediation Expert will focus on the Importance of Singapore Convention on Mediation in the Nepalese context; and Ms. Prakritee Yonzon, Lawyer and ADR Practitioner will focus on Investment Dispute resolution through Mediation. On behalf of BIAC, Barrister Farzana Ahmed, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh and Senior Vice President & Head of Legal Affairs Division, Dhaka Bank Ltd.; Barrister Khandoker MS Kawsar, ACIArb, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh and Regional Representative of South Asian Chapter, ICC YAF; and Mr. Shahariar Sadat, Director, Academic & Legal Empowerment, Centre for Peace & Justice, BRAC University will address from their own professional perspectives.

The webinar is aimed at achieving the following objectives;

  • Collaboration and partnership between NIAC and BIAC to achieve common objectives of the ADR realm in the region,
  • Friendship and fellowship between the two institutions and their members,
  • Strong relationship between ADR and the legal fraternity in the two countries,

  • Encouraging more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in both the countries.
